How to Spend 24 Hours in Cork

Cork has some lovely places to see that are not to be missed on your visit. Here is a 24-hour guide of what we think is a great way to spend your time in Cork.

Cork City is a vibrant and exciting city with a variety of things to offer. After enjoying our Vitality Breakfast, start your day in Cork City with a stroll through the famous Cork English Market and you are assured to fall in love.

The English market is the most famous food market in Ireland along with it having a visit from Queen Elizabeth in 2011 and Prince Charles and Camilla in 2018. Local merchants pride themselves on fresh produce, a range of fruit, veg, meat and much more. You can sample some local produce including Carrigaline Cheese, Toonsbridge Buffalo Mozzarella, delicious chocolate and some artisan meats and cheese.

Irish TV show The Young Offenders was filmed in the Market, pop by and you might run into Pat or Mairead.

Early Morning

A great way to start your day in Cork City is to stroll down the Cork English Market and you are assured to fall in love. Late Morning

Crawford Art Gallery is a National Cultural Institution and regional art museum for Munster, dedicated to the visual arts, both historic and contemporary. You cannot see such incredible works anywhere else.

From here you enjoy a short stroll uphill to Shandon where you can visit St. Anne’s Church – one of the oldest churches in the city built in 1722 and ring the famous Shandon Bells. For a spectacular 360 degree views of the city at 120ft, you can climb the 132 steps.

Lunchtime

Cork is the best shopping City in Munster, so in your time here shopping is a great must-do activity. There is a large range of high-street shops on Opera Lane and on Patrick Street. Cork is a place that if you wish you can ‘shop till you drop’.

Early Afternoon

Stroll around the grounds of University College Cork, one of the largest colleges in Ireland. UCC is also the home to the Glucksman Gallery which is a cultural and educational institution that promotes the research, creation and exploration of the visual arts. It is an award-winning building that includes display spaces, lecture facilities, a riverside restaurant and gallery shop.

Late Afternoon

Fitzgerald Park is situated on the picturesque bank of the River Lee and spans approximately eighteen acres with swings and slides, manicured gardens and Cork Public Museum located at its centre. The collections of Cork Public Museum are rich and diverse. The museum’s most expansive exhibit is the archaeological collection along with Classical archaeology, which features some of the most important archaeological finds from this region.

Evening & Night

Looking for something different for Dinner Cork City is home to some amazing traditional, Italian, Mexican, Seafood, and Japanese restaurants including Ichigo Ichie one of Cork’s five Michelin star restaurants. To finish off your evening, Cork City has a vibrant and exciting nightlife that you will be sure to adore. There are so many venues from which to choose right across the city with a great variation of pub types including some microbreweries including the Franciscan Well Brewery.

Cork has some great cocktail bars to get you in the party vibe for a night on the tiles. Many pubs in cork have live music and DJ’s playing. When the pubs finish up the night is only young in Cork City. If you wish, there is a variety of different clubs which will have you dancing for another while longer.

Cork City is home to two theatres, Cork Opera House which hosts a variety of musicals, tribute bands and shows why not check out their lineup, and The Everyman Theatre is a 650 seater listed building steeped in history and the auditorium is a favourite with audiences and performers alike for its intimacy and atmosphere. The building celebrated its 120th birthday in 2017. Located in the Victorian Quarter of the City which is less than a 5-minute walk from the hotel.
